Big Rock Racing Enters GTWS Manufacturer’s Cup
In October, Big Rock Racing made its debut in the Gran Turismo World Series (GTWS) Exhibition 3 Nations Cup, where we scored four podiums to take home 4th in state, 80th in country, and 110th in region. But we’re just getting started! After a week of recovery and reflection, it’s time to get after it. Next week, the GTWS Exhibition 3 Manufacturer’s Cup kicks off the first of a six-race series at Spa-Francorchamps and Big Rock Racing will be there! In this championship, drivers and manufacturers are pitted against one another to crown the best of both. Drivers sign with a manufacturer of their choice for the championship, scoring points in each race for their respective manufacturer. The team dynamics of the Manufacturer’s Cup are similar to the constructor’s championship component of Formula 1 or the World Rally Championship.
#6 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport and #7 Porsche 911 RSR (991) in MDA 75th Anniversary Liveries
Some drivers may be overwhelmed by the long and distinguished list of manufacturers on offer, from motorsports legends like Ferrari, AMG-Mercedes, and McLaren to staples of the automotive industry that even your mom would recognize, including Honda, Toyota, Ford, and more. But for me, there is only one choice, for which there is no substitute— Porsche. Three of our four podiums in the Nations Cup were achieved behind the wheel of beloved Porsche models including the last-of-the-air-cooled 993 Carrera RS, to the monstrous Group C 962C, and the 919 Hybrid LMP1 car. The Manufacturer’s Cup isn’t as varied as the Nations Cup, focusing on Group 3 and Group 4 cars from each manufacturer. There will be no Red Bull X2019 races here. Big Rock Racing will be campaigning the 2017 Porsche 911 RSR (991) Group 3 car and the 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Group 4 car. I am looking forward to racking up many miles of practice and side-by-side racing in these wonderful machines!
I’ve decided to do something special for this championship season. Both Big Rock Racing cars will be sporting liveries celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), which has been the leading philanthropic organization in advancing understanding and treatment of neuromuscular diseases since 1950. Members of my family have the neuromuscular disease Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT). MDAs work driving breakthroughs in research, genetics, diagnostics, and therapies helps people with this and other diseases. While we’re not affiliated with MDA, we are pleased to celebrate their anniversary by choosing to feature their colors prominently on the number 6 Cayman GT4 and number 7 911 RSR cars for the duration of the Manufacturer’s Cup. In addition, Big Rock Racing is also committed to making a donation to MDA at the end of the championship based on points scored. Please take a moment to read more about their story at mda75.org and consider donating.
We are looking forward to an exciting three weeks of racing in Gran Turismo in support of a good cause. Stay tuned for race reports and full race videos here and on our YouTube channel.
